Here’s a frugal craft project showing a cherished photo memory accented with pressed flowers. Total cost…$3.00!!!
A Beautiful Memory From The Heart
My 5 year old grandson and I are very close. So, it’s no surprise that he asked his Mommy if he could pick out a bouquet of flowers to give “Nana” (as he calls me) for Valentine’s Day? Of course his Mommy agreed and encouraged him to pick out the one he would like to give me. He perused the massive selection at the store and chose a particular bouquet because it had pink flowers and sparkles of glitter on the petals…telling his mommy that it reminded him of me. How sweet!
He raced into our home with great excitement wishing me a Happy Valentine’s Day as he crossed the threshold and presented me with the most beautiful and cherished bouquet of flowers that I have ever received…because they came from his heart!
I quickly snapped a photo of him with the flowers to capture the moment. Truly not the best or most focused photo I’ve ever taken, but the moment shall remain in my heart and in print forever.
Note: His mommy and daddy have asked me to protect his identity by blocking out his face in these photos. He’s a very handsome boy, so I respect their wishes.
Display Those Flowers, Then Press Them For Later Uses
I displayed the flowers in a vase for as long as I could, until they started to wilt. And then, I decided to save them by pressing them between layers of paper towels inside a heavy hardcover book.
Then I decided to print the photo of my grandson giving the flowers to me. I was so grateful when Walgreens photo emailed me an offer for a FREE 8×10 photo! I definitely took advantage of the FREE offer and had this memory printed. If it’s FREE…it’s definitely for ME!! LOL!

Items Needed To Accent A Photo With Pressed Flowers…
I purchased an 8×10 frame from Dollar General for $3.00 to save this memory and start this project. Oh sure, I could have purchased a frame from Dollar Tree for $1.25, but I needed something a bit stronger than the ones I saw in their selection at the time.
With the frame and the free photo in hand, I gathered tacky glue (which I already had on hand-very little was needed) and the gifted flowers that I had pressed. Basically the only cost for this project was $3.00 for the frame.
How To Create A Cherished Photo Memory…
Start by cleaning both sides of the glass inside the photo frame. Important: Be sure to let it dry before adding the photo to it.
Add a dab of tacky glue in the center of each pressed flower and place it on the photo to resemble a bouquet of flowers overflowing from their wrapped glory.
Note: The white petals dried to a brownish hue, but I didn’t care. I suppose I could have painted them white or added more glitter to the petals, but I chose not to. It’s the gesture and the moment I’m capturing with this project. The flowers may have faded, but my love for this little man never will.
Then I put the frame back together. It’s a bit bulky with the thickness from the flowers, so it does require some careful re-assembly. I did have to use a table knife to move the fasteners back into place along the sides of the frame.
Voila…the project is done! It was super easy, super frugal and incredibly special! Every time I look at this photo, I smile from the inside out…remembering the moment when one of the littlest loves in my life chose to brighten my Valentine’s Day and every day since!
