How To Make The Best Salsa From A Mix

Would you like to make the best salsa? Well folks, I’m about to share all my tricks and tips and shortcuts to the easiest and best salsa ever!! Even though I had a little help from a mix, it’s amazingly and naturally delicious. I promise you, people will never know you used a mix. Best of all, you can use a combination of fresh from the garden tomatoes, onions and peppers, along with canned tomatoes if necessary and a few other ingredients to suit your taste buds.

Let’s start in the garden

In my garden, there were numerous cherry tomatoes, a few banana peppers, a green pepper and some assorted onions. These will all taste so good in the salsa. And it is with great pride that I get to add them.

Canned tomatoes are an easy and convenient addition when making salsa

Since I didn’t have enough fresh tomatoes, I had to buy cans of diced tomatoes to complete the amount of tomatoes needed in the recipe. The extra cost of approximately $5.00 is worth it for the ease and convenience of using prepared tomatoes.

Mrs. Wages is the best salsa mix

I love this mix. I chose mild because I’m not a fan of spicy foods, but Mrs. Wages also offers a medium and hot variety for those that like a little more spice in their life! The ingredients are all natural and perfect.

Here’s the ingredient list from a package of Mrs. Wages Mild Salsa mix…

INGREDIENTS: DEHYDRATED VEGETABLES (ONION, GREEN BELL PEPPER, CHILI PEPPER, RED BELL PEPPER, GARLIC), SALT, SPICE (INCLUDES PAPRIKA).

I chose to sauté the veggies from my garden just a little bit before adding them into the mixture. I also pinched off the skins from the cherry tomatoes, because the skins are a bit unpleasant to eat this way.

I love ground cumin in salsa and other Mexican foods. The earthiness of the cumin flavor blends well with the tomatoes, onions and peppers. So I added a bit of cumin per my preference. This addition is optional.

Be sure your salsa has the right consistency

I felt the diced tomato chunks were too large, so I used the immersion blender to create a finer consistency from the veggies. This makes it easier to dip tortilla chips into the mixture and enjoy it without larger pieces falling off or breaking the chips.

Storing the salsa

Such a deal I got on these containers for freezing and storing the salsa…5 containers with lids for $1.25 at Dollar Tree!! And they are perfect.

Let the salsa cool and put it in containers. Refrigerate and use in a short time or put them into the freezer for longer storage. This batch filled seven 12 ounce containers of delicious salsa.

Enjoy the salsa you created

Of course there’s the standard way to enjoy salsa…with tortilla chips. But, one of my favorite uses for the salsa is putting it in an omelet with cheese and a bit of sour cream. It just screams freshness and exudes so many enjoyable flavors.

In delicious conclusion…

So folks, head to your garden, farmer’s market, co-op or grocery store and get what you need to make this salsa. It’s way better and less expensive than those commercially prepared jarred versions. Your family will love it!

And it makes great gifts as well…just put a container or two of the salsa into a pretty basket with tortilla chips, a festive chip and dip set, along with anything else you’d like to add and bundle it up with a pretty festive bow. Enjoy!

Until next time…take care, be safe, be kind, virtual hugs,
