It was time to find a new purpose for an old vinyl placemat in our coffee area. I prefer using vinyl placemats for this purpose, because they are easy to wipe clean and keep the area neat and tidy. The poor rooster placemat we had been using was looking old and worn and needed to be replaced. I often purchase the placemats I use in our coffee area from Dollar Tree or Walmart. Therefore, I usually only spend $1.00 to $1.96 each.
When looking for a replacement for the worn rooster placemat this week, I found this pretty “Home Sweet Home” version at a Dollar Tree location near us. It’s definitely worth $1.00 and it’s looks fabulous in our coffee area.

Since I don’t waste anything, I repurposed the worn rooster placemat as a crafting mat in my craft area. It will protect my table/work surface from glue, paint and glitter messes when I’m crafting.
An old vinyl placemat can also be repurposed as a pet food mat. I’m showing it here with my cat’s food dish.
I definitely could have used a mat when I was crafting and painting this door decor item.

Note: when purchasing vinyl placemats, be sure the back of the placemat is also vinyl. Some cheaper versions have a paper backing, that thin cardboard-ish material will not serve for long term use. And since they can’t be cleaned properly, they are not sanitary.
Here’s a cute coffee time themed vinyl placemat from Walmart for only $1.96, if you’d like to get one for your coffee area.
