My Version Of Quick And Easy Apple Dumplings

This is my version of quick and easy apple dumplings using crescent roll dough. I’ve always wanted to try this way of making apple dumplings, so now was the time. The need for these was born on the first day of Fall after we were gifted with a bag full of fresh picked apples and I was craving a Fall dessert.

Since I’m still recovering from a fractured femur, my standing time is limited. So, I needed a dessert that was quick and easy…yet delicious. This easy version only took 15 minutes to prepare and was definitely delicious, so it met all the requirements.

Missing Ingredients…Door Dash™ to the Rescue!

I had everything on hand, except for the Pillsbury™ crescent roll dough and the Sprite™. Since I wasn’t able to get to the store, I Door Dashed the missing ingredients from Dollar General™. Sure it may have cost a bit more for each item, but between what I would have spent on the gas and efforts to get to the store, it was well worth it…including the tip for the Dasher! (Remember to always tip your dasher!).

Using Door Dash™ allowed me to apply my saved time and efforts into making this dessert. A delicious win, win in my book!

A Dessert So Easy, A Child Can Do It!

The dumplings came out so good the first time that I made them, I just had to make them again! So the next time my grandson came to visit, I asked him to help me. This little video shows that these are so easy to make, even a child can do it. Of course (for safety reasons) adults should do the peeling, coring and cutting of the apples and the removal of the dumplings from the oven.

A process so easy, my 5 year old grandson could do it. I showed him once and he made all the rest! Plus he absolutely enjoyed it! Listen to him say “again”!

Ingredients

  • 2 baking apples washed, peeled, cored and cut into quarters
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tube Pillsbury™ crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 stick butter cut into 8 pieces
  • 12-16 ounces lemon lime soda I used Sprite™
  • 1 tsp. vanilla optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Spray a medium baking dish with nonstick spray
  • Mix sugar and cinnamon together until well combined and set aside
  • Place apple pieces in a small bowl and sprinkle with 2-3 tsps. cinnamon and sugar mixture
  • Stir to coat apple pieces with the cinnamon and sugar-set aside
  • Open tube of crescent roll dough-gotta love that pop open scare!
  • Separate the dough at the perforations forming 8 individual triangles
  • Place 1 apple quarter onto the widest end of a crescent roll dough triangle
  • Roll the dough over the apple slice and continue rolling to the pointed end of the dough
  • Tuck the open sides under the apple piece
  • Continue with the remaining dough triangles and apple pieces
  • Place the dumplings into the greased baking dish
  • Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture liberally on top of each apple dumpling and all around them to flavor the sauce mixture
  • Place a slice of butter on top of each apple dumpling
  • Pour Sprite™ around all the dumplings in the baking dish-do not pour on the dumplings or they will be soggy
  • Do not add soda to more than 1/3 to 1/2 way up the sides of the dumplings or they will be soggy
  • I tend to use extra soda, because I like a bit more sauce with each dumpling
  • Add vanilla into the soda mixture and swirl around a bit to combine-optional but adds more flavor
  • Place in preheated oven to bake for 40 minutes until dumpling dough is golden brown, firm and the sauce is bubbly
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving
  • Serve as is, or top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
  • Spoon sauce around the dumpling(s) when serving
