Give non-working night light bulbs a second life by using them to make frugally festive night light bulb ornaments!
As I was looking for items in my craft closet to quickly create ornaments for our little Christmas tree, I found a stash of several non-working night light bulbs. I had saved them, because they’re kinda cute and I couldn’t just throw them away. All the night light bulbs I had were white, but the clear ones would work for this project as well. To create the ornaments, I used items I already had on hand. If you have similar items that would work, please use whatever you have.
Items Needed To Make A Night Light Bulb Ornament
- Night Light Bulbs (white or clear)
- Glue Gun
- Fine Floral Wired Wooden Picks
- Festive Satin Ribbon
Instructions To Make A Night Light Bulb Ornament
- Add a dab of hot glue to the metal/silver end of the night light bulb
- Work quickly, because the glue sets fast on the metal. Tightly wrap the wire around the light bulb ending the wrap where you started and carefully press to set the wire into the glue (use finger guards if necessary to avoid burns)
- Cut a length of satin ribbon long enough to make a pretty little bow
- Notch or angle cut the ribbon ends to avoid fraying
- Glue the bow onto the night light bulb covering the area where the wire ends meet
- That’s it! You’re done!
Next, secure the light bulb ornament by wrapping the wired wooden end around a branch where desired on your Christmas tree. You can also use these ornaments to decorate a wreath, garland or a centerpiece.
Festively Frugal Christmas Tree
I love the warm festive glow of Christmas lights! So I decided to put a little Christmas tree on a table in our dining room to brighten the back area of our home. But I didn’t have any decorations for it. Which is why I created these night light bulb ornaments.
Getting to a store is not always an easy task for me these days. And let’s be honest, I’m too frugal to spend money on things I can use that are already in my home. So to decorate this tree, I used Christmas cookie cutters along with the night light bulb ornaments. Super simple and super cute! Cost…ZERO dollars!! Whoo Hoo!!
And for a tree skirt…I used a red and white bandana that I had! It’s absolutely perfect!! I added blue and white trucks (that match my blue and white dining room) to go under the tree!
So folks, don’t throw out those cute little non-working night light bulbs…put them to use as festively frugal decorations. Then look around your home for more items to use as frugal finishing touches.
Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas. Be safe. Be kind. And be happy. Virtual hugs!
