If you have ever been in a hospital or a rehabilitation facility you will definitely understand the need to contain the clutter and organize an over the bed table of numerous items like eye glasses, cellphone, tissues, lotion, pen, hairbrush, TV remote etc. The over the bed table often becomes the center of what you do each day. Especially when the dietary or nursing staff brings in your food tray to set it on the table that’s scattered with various personal items. The arrival of the food tray creates moments of rushing panic as you quickly try to grab or slide everything off the table or down to the end to make room for your incoming meal. These panic moments spurred my need to find a frugal fix for this mess of sorts.
It all started because of a fall
I discovered a need to organize an over the bed table 3 weeks ago when I fractured my right femur and ended up in the hospital.
The terrible break happened when I was heading to the pasture to feed and water my donkey, I tripped over the garden hose in our backyard….became airborne and fell to the ground fracturing my femur and damaging my artificial knee! OUCH! Which resulted in an ambulance ride to the ER. Surgery 2 days later to install enough hardware that I’ve been warned to stay out of lightning storms. HA,HA!! After the surgery, I stayed a week and a half in the hospital and now I’m in a rehab facility.
How to organize the bed table
I had been to Dollar Tree a week before my fall and saw these cute little caddy style organizers. I didn’t have a use for them at the time, but tucked thoughts of their versatility in the back of my mind.
Until I ended up in the hospital a week later. Then I asked my wonderfully sweet daughter-in-law to get me one of those little caddies/organizers. I love the color blue so it was my preferred choice and that’s the one she bought for me.
Look how neat and organized the over the bed table is now
I immediately went to work putting all my necessary items in the organizer. So cute. I finished it just in time for my next meal to arrive. No need to scramble and grab all the little things in the way. I just slid the organizer to the end of the table leaving plenty of room for the food tray. I can also pick up the organizer and move it to other places if I would like.
Side Note: You can also get another organizer to contain your shower items like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razor, etc. So easy. So convenient. And it’s waterproof!!
And there’s still plenty of space on the over the bed table for a food tray and the organizer both. How perfect is that?!
From the hospital to a rehab facility, the organizer goes with ease
I’m now in a rehab facility, recovering and learning to walk again. My little organizer made the trip from the hospital to rehab with ease. I just put it inside a plastic grocery bag and tied it shut. Now I’ve added a few more things to the organizer, such as a package of thank you cards, stamps, toothpaste, extra salt & pepper packets, along with extra creamer and sugar packets and of course….the TV remote. It’s still so nice to see everything organized, handy, readily available and contained for safety. I love this little caddy/organizer.
The over the bed table is organized and still provides plenty of room for a food tray, as I continue my stay in a rehab facility.
So folks, God forbid you should end up in a hospital or rehab facility…but if you do, here’s how to stay organized and have convenient accessibility to all those things you need each day. And it only cost $1.25!!
Take care folks. Be safe. Be kind. Virtual hugs,
Chauncey

Fabulous tips as usual!! I’ll keep this in my mind for my next surgery date. Get well soon!
